Jonathan,

I think that some of the responses to your post have missed the point.  I 
have a machine up and running as a network router (among other things) 
with two NICs on it; the REAL trick to the hardware setup was to get the 
second card configured in a meaningful way (i.e., not on the same IRQ/IO 
space as the first card).  I used a second PC; booted DOS on it and ran 
all my configuration & diags against the card; then I reinstalled the 
no. 2 NIC and added the following to my /etc/lilo.conf:

append "ether=0,0,eth1"

What this did was force the system to probe for the second card, and it 
-will- be found (provided there is no conflict with other devices in the 
system).
