ppp 2.2.0f, please help

Hi,
After I have installed pppd on kernel v1.3.97., I could use
my pppd to make a connection to my ISP, however, when I
tried to do any telnet or ftp, the session freezes soon
after it was connected. When I check the ifconfig of the ppp
link, I saw a lot of errors reported in the "Rx" direction.
It is in the range of 10-30% of the packets transmitted.
Is this the cause of the problem ?? and what could have
caused this.
Any help is much appreciated.
