Notice Peter didn't say they couldn't be plugged into the same wire; what
he said was that they won't talk to each other (unless there's a router)
If you define subinterfaces then your system resides on all four networks
and you can indeed talk just fine to any host on the physical network.
If you don't / can't define subinterfaces then you can only be on one
"logical network" and you won't be able to communicate with hosts on the
other IP networks. The routers will do that for you, 'cause they have
sub-interfaces ...
