Hi Dave,

I just sucessfully set up gated on one of the linux boxes in our
network that is attached to two nets; one is all linux, the other (with
the exception of the routing machine) is pure M$ WFWG.

The gated includes (or should include) a helper/control app called
gdc. It can be used to stop/start gated, get status info from gated, and
to generate gated config file(s).

I got it set up and running in about two hours, but one great help was
info available re: configuration at http://nic.merit.edu

These folks do a lot of work with routing softwares of various sorts,
and this is their base page so you'll have to poke around and find the
GateD Consortium. On this page you will find config instructions, man
pages, and -a lot- of other information pertainent to gated.

The thing to watch out for about gated is its complexity; it is
prepared to do a -lot- more routing than either of us will ever do (it
was designed to do routing for NSF Backbones).

Consequently now that I have it running its bulletproof, and on a machine
that routed has been cratering and dropping routes to at a rate of twice per
day.
