I have compiled bootp 2.4.3 with the patch for DHCP, and I'm running the
server on a Linux machine running 1.2.4.
This is able to provide IP addresses, and DNS information for machines
running Windows '95, but it doesn't work with the add on TCP/IP stack
for Windows for Workgroups (3.11).
What seems to happen is that the server gets the request, and looks up
the information, but seems unable to send the reply -- there are Network
is Unreachable errors in the logs.
The only thing I seem to notice is that requests come in from 0.0.0.0
when from WfW, but I haven't noticed that from Windows '95.
Does anybody have any experience with this? I'd like to be able to
suggest that machines move over to using DHCP/bootp gently now, so that
the eventual IP renumbering that will be needed will be much smoother.
