compile problem

I've followed the docs and am trying to compile pppd. I typed:
ln -s Makefile.linux Makefile
got 'file alread exists'
then i typed:
make
and it compiled for a while but then I get this error:
sys-linux.c: In function `ppp_set_xaccm':
sys-linux.c:257: parse error before `ext_accm'
sys-linux.c:260: subscripted value is neither array nor pointer
So, I'm stuck, please help asap. Thanks in advance.
