[ Getting to be a FAQ - here ]
pppd is reporting that everything it is sending out is coming back.
From the point of view of the software, the serial data is looping
back.
Why ?
Usually because there is a login prompt, or a shell command line,
or something that is supposed to be talking to a human.
We like to see what we type, so the login prompt, shell command line,
editor, or whatever, echoes it back so we have some feedback.
So, you have a timing hazard on your login, the login fails (perhaps
because you sent the password out too soon, the system was busy, the
modem dropped the line, and you are talking to the modem AT OK prompt,
or any of a number of different reasons) and the serial line seems
like it is looped back.
pppd is trying to be helpful - it could just say "No connection" or
something.
Cheers, Andy!
