I have a direct connection to the ethernet provided by a commercial
provider through a linux box. I also have a different subnet connected
to this box on which there is a SUN.
The SUN keeps getting strange routing addresses added to it. I don't
know how.

For instance, here is the output of netstat -r

Routing Table:
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
-------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ------ ---------
localhost localhost UH 0 2 lo0
35.15.255.0 35.12.225.1 UGH 0 0
131.103.0.0 35.12.225.1 UG 0 0
35.0.0.0 peakie U 4 11 le0
224.0.0.0 peakie U 4 0 le0
default peakie U 4 8 le0

The SUN is called peakie

I don't know what 35.12.225.1 is nor do I know how it gets into my
routing table. It is a live machine because I can ping it from my linux
box.

PING 35.12.225.1 (35.12.225.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 35.12.225.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=4.6 ms
64 bytes from 35.12.225.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=10.4 ms
64 bytes from 35.12.225.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=4.7 ms
64 bytes from 35.12.225.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=4.7 ms
64 bytes from 35.12.225.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=6.9 ms

Also, on the SUN, I keep getting error messages like

Mar 27 01:24:15 peakie unix: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:0e:2a:f9'
trying to be our address 035.008.158.244!

I am afraid that things are quite messed up in this configuration.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Perhaps a firewall is the best
answer, but so far I have not been able to set one up.

Is there any other way of insulating things?

Thanks,
 -sen
