My friend, Corey Brenner, and I a week or so
ago spent some time trying to get the bootpc client
to function in the kernel to supplement the
'rarp' code that is compiled in the kernel
when the 'nfsroot' option is chosen.

A big incentive for why we tried this was
because every pc on campus has some machine
that will respond to bootp, and very few of
them have some machine that will respond to
rarp queries; those few that do are ones
the CS department has setup for their own
use as linux X terms.

Anyway, I send this to the linux-net list
in hopes that someone would be willing
to look at what we have done and 'help us out'
or 'finish it' so that it works.

The kernel will compile, but the bootp code
doesn't complete 'running'.

To see where we started, have the 1.3.59 kernel
sources handy, and grab:

ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Network/sunacm/Other/bootpc/boot*tar.gz

(as I recall).

To see where we are now, grab:

http://www.umr.edu/~tfries/tgz/bootp.patch.gz

I just tried the patch against 1.3.64, and it
gets a few rejects; that is why I mentioned 1.3.59..

Any help would be appreciated.
