We have two Linux boxes running 1.2.13 with identical resolv.conf files.
One machine suddenly became dns-blind yesterday, i.e., it wouldn't resolve
names, though IP services (httpd, ftp, telnet, ...) were functioning
normally otherwise. I managed to return the machine to functionality by
commenting out one of resolv.conf's nameserver entries and substituting
another dns host.
The puzzle is that the second machine continued to function normally--and
still does--with the original resolv.conf nameserver entries. I also
note that the afflicted machine responds rather sluggishly, taking as
much as 10 seconds to return output from a ping.
I'd like to understand what has happened here. Can anyone point me in
the right direction?
Cheers,
-Mike
