login.krb5 won't contact the kdc -- it is currently just a backend for
krlogind and telnetd. (I've got code to make it a /bin/login
replacement, but it is still being worked on so hasn't been integrated
into the MIT tree yet; just deal -- typing kinit -f isn't that hard :-)
As for freezing, could you do an strace or something and investigate
the problem a bit? (don't mail me the traces, just try and narrow the
problem down some more.) Are you using the linux box as the server as
well, or just the client? The telnet client certainly works fine
(under 1.2.x anyhow, I'm now running debian but it worked under my old
homebrew setup as well.) The daemons appear to pass their tests but I
don't know how much of that is because of changes in my tree since beta5.
If you just want a working security package, I recommend going with
kerberos V4 instead -- it builds out of the box and works fine on
linux systems, and most others as well. V5 is still very much beta.
I'll agree that the "missing-bsd-includes" may be confusing it, but
only if they describe features that linux doesn't actually have...

ps. If you get the CNS V4 release, you may need a LEXLIB=-lfl in
src/config/mt-linux; it varies from system to system whether that is
needed or not, I'm afraid...

Hi,
I am having a little problem. I am using linux-.3.45 and obtained MIT
kerberos from athena-dist.mit.edu. I did a configure then a make just
like the thing said to do. The login.krb5 program does not seem to
contact the kdc, and says login incorrect when I supply the correct
passwd. A rlogin -x seems to get appropriate tickets then freezes. What
am I missing?
Has anybody else done this? I have installed the missing-bsd-includes
for gated, which might be messing with this wonderful configure script.
