You're right -- I see that every 0A sent by Linux is followed by 00.

Well, my terminal server does have the capability of doing rlogin and raw 
TCP connect.  I'll try rlogin next, and then if that doesn't work I'll 
have to move to a raw connect.  Anyone know of any package which does a 
login upon TCP connect?
