Hi,
I'm planning to set up a Linux-based BBS (probably using Rocat 1.0).
One problem I've faced is permitting access to selected newsgroups to
different users. E.g. new users will get read-only access to the local
(BBS) groups, after verification they'll be able to post to these
groups, more privileged (and USENET-savvy) users will get read and
post access to all the newsgroups, etc. Hence some method of defining
newsgroup lists and permissions on the same based on user-ID is
required.
Is there a convenient way of doing this? I've been looking at an
NNTP-based solution since the only other method of defining user
access appears to be client-based, which doesn't seem like a good
idea. Both nntpd and INN can restrict access to certain groups based
on client host, but neither seems to have any user-based access
scheme. How about hacking nntpd (or INN) to use Identd (and a
userID-based access file) to achieve this?
Or am I just missing something right under my nose?
