Good afternoon/evening to everyone. Hopefully all the Linux users
have a pleasant weekend planned.

We are currently using dosemu (0.60.3) to access Wordperfect mail on
our corporate network. The corporate network is (Token
Ring/Novell/Some TCP-IP) and we are connected through a Token
Ring/Ethernet Router.

We are running the 1.2.13 kernel with IPX genned into the kernel. We
have ipxsupport on in the dosemu.conf file. Our autoexec.bat file
simply loads vlm and everything starts flawlessly. My users have been
very happy with this setup and report no difficulties running
Wordperfect.

The problem is that the novell session disconnects during periods of
inactivity. The IPX documentation that comes with dosemu alludes to
the fact that other's have experienced this as well. We have futzed
with the packet driver solution but we have had difficulty with failed
connections to the Novell server. Using kernel level IPX has resulted
in almost flawless connections. In addition the speed of the kernel
solution seems to be better than the packet driver.

I am just wondering if anyone has any clues for solving this problem?
As the dosemu docs say this smells suspiciously like some sort of
watchdog or keep-alive functionality is missing from the kernel ipx
networking or in the dosemu code. I suspect that something this
simple would have probably been fixed by this time however.

Any comments or suggestions would be valued. Corporate IS has
indicated that they are going to install a Novell Message Server/SMTP
gateway so that we do not have to futz with dosemu/WP for mail. One
of my associates has been assigned the task of holding his breath
until we get a reliable mail connection through either channel. He
seems to be getting quite blue so I am sure any type of assistance
would be appreciated.

Thanks and have a pleasant weekend.
