I have some further interesting information concerning the Boca BEN1PI
Ethernet card's apparent sensitivity to data.

I found a Linux file (/usr/bin/gawk) which seems to be "poison" for this card.
If I try doing a binary FTP of this file from a Sun to Linux, the FTP
connection will lock up and ifconfig will report RX ERRs. If I tar this
file to a remote tape drive (on a different Sun) and then try to "tar tvf"
the tape via rmt, the tar command locks up.

If I shut down Linux, boot up DOS, install the Boca-supplied packet driver
for this card, fire up PC/TCP, and try to do a binary FTP of the file from
my Sun, the FTP transfer locks up.

In all of these lockups, the "ifconfig" command on the Sun involved in the
transfer shows a substantial amount of data sitting in the TCP buffers,
ready to be sent. The connection never completes.

I think the card's at fault. I'm going to work up a bug report and fax it
to Boca, and request an RMA to have the card exchanged.

I'll let y'all know if I get any additional information.
