Hello linux-netter's,

I'm currently setting up a small LAN at home which is connected to the internet
via a dialup PPP link. Since I don't have registered IP addresses, I am using
addresses from the range 192.0.2.x (netmask 255.255.255.248) for my LAN.

My current providers insist in dynamic IP addressing and I doubt they will
allow me to subnet their class B address.

With dynamic IP addressing you can get misdirected incoming connections destined
for machines which were previously assigned your current IP addr.

Given this situation, the machine connecting to the internet is set up as a
firewall and I have yet to set up a proxy server in order to gain internet
access from machines inside the firewall.

Is there a *transparent* way for routing TCP & UDP packets via the firewall?
The socks packages mentioned in the Firewall-HOWTO is no real option for me
cause
 - it requires recompiling all applications that aren't proxy-aware,
 - socks doesn't support UDP.

As a newcomer to TCP/IP networking I'll appreciate any helpful hints,

Thanks
