If you check out the August edition of Doctor Dobb's Journal they have an 
article on Java. 

They say to get java go to http://java.sun.com

When I checked in july they had not yet ported it to Linux(I don't think 
they were officially trying) but you might want to check there for a 
port. Or information on when one will be ready.

Hope this helps. I am going there right now, I've wanted to check out 
Java for some time myself. :-)
