Rico Even in death, Christopher Rivera Amaro almost looked ready to
box, leaning against the corner of a simulated ring.Mourners who came to
his wake in San Juan on Friday found him posed afoot, a
yellow hood on his head, sunglasses glasses over his eyes and blue
boxing gloves on his hands.Elsie Rodriguez, vice president of the Marin
Funeral Home, said Rivera's family wanted to stress his boxing. The funeral
home suggested posing him in a ring.The makeshift ring was set up
in a community center of a public housing complex. Rodriguez told The
Associated Press it took them several hours to create the scene.The funeral
home has staged similar wakes for others. One featured a deceased man
riding his motorcycle.The 23-year-old Rivera had a 5-15 record in the 130-pound
weight class. Police said he was shot dead Sunday in the city
of Santurce. No one has been arrested.
VATICAN CITY Pope Francis has told members of a controversial missionary
movement that they must respect local customs and the guidance of local
bishops as they spread the faith.Francis met Saturday with several thousand
members of the Neocatechumenal Way, a community founded in Spain in the
1960s that seeks to train Catholic adults in their faith and is
known for sending large families as missionaries around the world.While
appreciating the movement's religious zeal, bishops in Japan, the Philippines
and elsewhere in Asia have accused the movement of wreaking chaos in
their dioceses and have tried to limit its activities. The Vatican has
also questioned its unusual liturgical practices.Francis encouraged 40 new
missionary teams but said their priority must be church unity, even at
the expense of their own practices.

what's wrong with a little tracking? Because it's not just tracking. It's
tracking and storing. And it's an amount of data that, as we've
seen time and time again, can quickly begin to paint a compelling
picture of every customer.The implications are heavy. Im sure you heard
about the report last year of a man who called Target in
a rage because his 16-year-old daughter was suddenly being served up with
expectant-mother ads. He called the store back later to apologizeturned
out his daughter was pregnant. The store's algorithms for figuring out such
things had been spot on!The storage of the data means that, at
some point, someone can get to it. And as we recently read,
intelligence agencies in the U.S. and Britain have begun to do just
that for social-media sites. And when it comes to ad trackers, it's
not too hard to imagine an enterprising behind-the-scenes government initiative
to remove that anonymization.In fact, they can barely control their glee
about it. One of the PowerPoint slides recently released was headlined,
"Golden Nugget!"Imagine if the government passed a law that required all
U.S. citizens to carry around GPS tracking devices and complete records
of our buying and playing habits. That, I think you will agree,
would be a hard sell, and provoke widespread protests. So why are
we all essentially volunteering that information to companies and a government
that might not be trusted to use it carefully and legall
speed, adjust the audio and climate control systems, and endows them
with the ability to engage a chauffeur mode that makes sure their
section of the car gets temperature priority over the driver when its
heating up or cooling down. The Jeeveses and dads of the world
will not be pleased.Its entertaining, more so than the infotainment system.
Theres navigation and satellite radio, but the tech is decidedly last gen,
or perhaps quaintly retro, and doesnt offer the type of cloud-connected
app library available in bargain basement cars these days. This might speak
more to the Flying Spurs audience and its inherent appeal than any
failings on Bentleys behalf. The Breitling analog clock above it is lovely,
however.As is the throttle pedal, a drilled alloy affair that brings on
a rush of speed thats mind-bending, given how large the Flying Spur
is. Imagine a Clydesdale that runs like Seabiscuit, and you start to
get the idea. The small, thin-rimmed steering wheel and its hydraulic assist
deliver some fine old-school feel through the helm, and when you pull
the knurled shifter into sport, everyone loosens his tie and gets down
to business.On the street, the Flying Spurs abilities are no surprise, but
where it really impresses is when you pull off the blacktop on
to a snow-covered dirt road in freezing temperatures and dont drive immediately
into a tree.The Flying Spur is so sure-footed in these conditions that
youd think it had a plow attached
