Title: Mtools v2.5 ALPHA
Version: 2.5
Entered-Date: 21AUG95
Description: Alpha test version of new release of Mtools
Mtools permits UN*X workstations to read, write, and format
DOS floppies and hard disk partitions. It is a set of
commands
similar to DOS file commands; they do not use "mount" or
require kernel support for DOS file systems.
The new version of Mtools, supports VFAT long file names
(as used in Microsoft Windows95 and Windows NT 3.5
(trademarks
and lawyers apply). It also supports the new XDF floppy
format used in OS/2 Warp and the "2m" and "2mgui" formats
from
the utilities by Ciriaco Garcia de Celis.
v2.5 is a nearly total rewrite of the v2.0.x Mtools code.
It is expected to be will be followed by at least one beta
version, and then a production version 3.0 (code-name
"Luxembourg").
*WARNING* This is a test release, intended for experienced
users who are willing to help debug it. It should only be
used on expendable floppies or hard disk partitions. It has
known bugs and could conceivable corrupt your disk. It
*definitely* is capable of misplacing files you write with
it. If you don't make frequent backups, or if have important
data in the vicinity, please wait for the production version
(v3.0).
