TEHRAN, Iran Iran's foreign minister says Washington's "wishes are unlikely
to come true" at upcoming talks between the Islamic Republic and world
powers over its nuclear program.Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a Wednesday
news conference in Tehran that the U.S. wanted Iran to give up
major parts of its program, but "those wishes are unlikely to come
true and that's why they are negotiating with the Islamic Republic of
Iran to achieve a solution based on realities."Iran stopped enrichment of
uranium to 20 percent and started neutralizing its stockpile on Jan. 20
in order to fulfil commitments reached under an interim deal in Geneva
on Nov. 24. Negotiations over a final comprehensive deal are to start
Feb. 18.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been criticized by hard-liners
who say he made too many concessions in return for too little.
JERUSALEM Israel's finance minister says he will stop funding for ultra-Orthodox
seminaries whose students do not enlist into the military.Yair Lapid's announcement
Wednesday was in response to an order from the Israeli Supreme Court.Ultra-Orthodox
Jews have for years been exempt from military service, which is compulsory
for Jewish Israelis. The arrangement has caused widespread resentment among
Israel's secular majority and featured prominently in last year's election.A
new system that would gradually reduce the number of exemptions and require
all to register for service awaits parliamentary approval. The ultra-Orthodox
have been demonstrating against the plan and condemned the court decision.
They claim the military will expose their youth to secularism and undermine
their devout lifestyle.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">," Bradshaw said.That's when a sergeant
fired three times, once to the torso and twice on the lower
part of the body. The man was taken to Delray Medical Center,
where he died. The injured police officer and the teen were also taken
to the hospital. Their conditions were not available. Bradshaw said the
10-year-old boy injured himself trying to go under the gate to get
away from the man.The sheriff said investigators are trying to figure out
the man's identity and to get some background information on about him.Bradshaw
said the man was "obviously on some kind of narcotics to act
like this.""The deputies had to do what they had to do to
disable this guy so he didn't get into this gated community and
wreak havoc in there," Bradshaw said. The incident is reminiscent of a 2012
attack in Miami in which a naked man attacked a homeless man
and chewed off much of his face. The man, Rudy Eugene, was
shot and killed by a Miami police officer. Witnesses said he had
been swinging from a light pole minutes before the attack. Lab tests
found only marijuana in his system. The victim in the Miami attack, Ronald
Poppo, lost his left eye, his nose and most of the surrounding
skin.
NEW YORK Four people are in custody on drug charges after
police executed search warrants at three apartments in New York City.Police
say undisclosed quantities of heroin and marijuana were found Tuesday night
in the apartments in a lower Manhattan building. They say three of
the people lived in the building. All four three men and
a woman face charges of criminal possession of a
controlled substance. Two of the suspects also face charges of criminal
use of drug paraphernalia.Police wouldn't say why they had search warrants
for the apartments. They say that "at this time," they aren't linking
the arrests to their investigation into the death of Oscar-winning actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman.Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his apartment with
a syringe in his arm.
