LINUX INSTALLATION EVENT:

This is a unique event and the first of its type that I am aware of. We
will not just talk about how to install this software release, but we will
show you how on your computer. Yes, that's right, your computer.

Marc Ewing, President and Erik Troan of Red Hat Software, Inc. will be leading
the workshop.

If you would like to learn how to install and configure the latest Red Hat
release on your computer all you have to do is bring it along. We request
that you have a CD-ROM drive or an ethernet network card installed in your
computer configured ready to go. Yes, I am sorry, but you must bring your
own monitor! (Please have your documentation available for the video card
and monitor to speed X window installation)

We will have a limited number of CD-ROM drives and ethernet cards available
to lend for those who don't have them, but this will slow the process so we
urge everyone to come prepared with there computer properly configured.

Red Hat Linux is the most advanced Linux distribution available today, and
this is the latest edition of Red Hat Commercial Linux, the Version 2.0 release.

Here are some details on the new release to wet your appetite:

    1) fully ELF based
    2) both *graphical* and text installations
    3) install via CD, NFS, or FTP
    4) PCMCIA install support - install on a laptop via NFS or FTP!
    5) easier-than-ever (tm) networking with included httpd and gopher servers
    6) new package system -- RPM -- which:
	a) uses *pristine* sources, so you can now see what the Red
Hat folks broke when they compiled it
	b) faster querying options
	c) a really nifty X admin tool that will be released any day now!
    7) Lots of new software:
	XFree86 3.1.2
	libc 5.0.9
	gcc 2.7.0
	Tcl 7.4 and Tk 4.0
	Python 1.2

There's plenty of other cool stuff included - but you have to come to find
out what!!

This is a fully functional system, which Red Hat has used for all development,
on a number of different machines, every day. What we would like from the
participants of this workshop, is feed back on the ease of installation, and
the look and feel of the installation system which we would like to test on
a wide range of hardware configurations.

There is a mailing list for discussion of the beta. You can subscribe
by sending mail to listproc@redhat.com with the line

subscribe beta-list Firstname Lastname

in the body of the message.

Red Hat will be supporting this release via the list server. We will
also announce at the workshop official FTP sites for future Red Hat
software releases.
