ROME The judge who presided over Amanda Knox's second murder conviction
says he suffered over the verdict but that he and the jury
agreed about her guilt in the death of British student Meredith Kercher.Judge
Alessandro Nencini said he agreed to be interviewed by Corriere della Sera
for Saturday's editions because he knew the sentence would create a media
storm.Nencini says the jury had come up with a motive that would
be explained in the written explanation of the verdict, expected within
three months. But he hinted at the conclusion, saying that up until
8:15 p.m. on the night of the murder, Knox and her now
ex-boyfriend had other plans but that something changed. He told Corriere:
"If Amanda had gone to work, probably we wouldn't be here."
JACKSON, Miss. To hear Natasha Stewart tell it, she was just
trying to help an insecure woman when she helped arrange for her
to get silicone injections in her buttocks, shots that prosecutors say were
deadly. A jury disagreed, convicting Stewart on Friday of culpable negligence
manslaughter.Stewart, of suburban Memphis, Tenn., was found guilty Friday
in Jackson, Miss., in the death of 37-year-old Karima Gordon of Atlanta.Authorities
say Stewart, an adult entertainer also known as Pebbelz Da Model, took
$200 for a referral to the alleged injector and falsely represented that
the injector was a nurse.Stewart had been charged with "depraved-heart murder,"
but jurors decided to go with the option they had been given
to convict Stewart of the lesser charge.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">KHARTOUM, Sudan A Sudanese official says the government has lifted a
ban on an opposition newspaper, a week after Khartoum announced that it
would hold a national dialogue to address freedom of expression.Secretary
of the National Council for Press and Publications Obeid Murawah told the
Sudanese state news agency Saturday that all restrictions on "The People's
Opinion" daily had been lifted and that the paper could resume printing
after completing the appropriate procedures. The paper is a mouthpiece for
the Popular Congress Party, led by Islamist opposition leader Hassan al-Turabi.
Authorities closed it nearly a year ago for publishing articles that
they said were a threat to national security. The ban's lifting comes a
week after President Omar al-Bashir announced the dialogue.Three other newspapers
remain banned in Sudan.
