U.S. President Barack Obama (L) poses alongside former U.S. President George
W. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and first lady Michelle Obama
(R) after the Bush's official White House portraits were unveiled during
a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington
May 31, 2012.ReutersAbout half of American voters have a positive opinion
of President Barack Obama -- and about the same number think positively
about his predecessor, George W. Bush. Fifty-two percent have a favorable
opinion of Obama according to the latest Fox News poll, while 49
percent of voters have a favorable view of Bush. There is a wide
partisan gap: Republicans (79 percent) are three times as likely as Democrats
(24 percent) to have a positive opinion of Bush. The gap is
even wider on Obamas favorable rating: Five times as many Democrats (86
percent) as Republicans (17 percent) like the current occupant of the White
House.CLICK TO VIEW THE FOX NEWS POLLThe poll was taken in advance
of dedication ceremonies for the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which
will be held this Thursday in Dallas. In addition to Presidents Obama
and Bush, former presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush (the father of
George W. Bush) and Bill Clinton are expected to attend.Despite a slight
increase in his favorable ratings, the new Fox poll nonetheless finds that
George W. Bush fares least well among the former presidents in terms
of current popularity. Clinton tops the lis
Editor's note: Watch former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino's interview
with former President George W. Bush Thursday on "The Five" at 5
pm ET.The George W. Bush Library and Museum opens this week in
Dallas and many already have written about our 43rd president and his
legacy. As commentators and historians hash over the big decisions, successes
and mistakes over those eight years, heres my personal take on what
President Bush means to me.On election night 2000, I had never met
then-Governor Bush, though Id supported him for years. I believed he would
be a strong, optimistic and gracious president with solid conservative principles
and a big heart. When I got a call to volunteer on the
campaign in early 2000, I had to turn it down due to
a new job and a new life we were trying to start
in San Diego. When I hung up the phone, I cried, Now
Ill never get to work for George Bush. Then the 9/11 attacks
changed everything for everyone. I moved back to D.C. and worked for
the Bush administration from the fall of 2001 until the last day
on January 20, 2009. Over those years, President Bush became a friend
and a leader who made me strive to be a better person
and citizen. Here are some of my favorite memories: One night when I
first took the deputy press secretary job, I went with him on
Marine One to an event in rural Virginia for the Boy Scouts
Jamboree. Weather had kept us from going for two days, but on
the third night, we made it

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">ocrats, it's a precarious position to be in.
Democratic senators overwhelmingly support gay marriage -- all but three
are now on the record voicing their support -- and two dozen
of them this year backed a separate bill called the Uniting American
Families Act to let gays sponsor their partners independent of a comprehensive
immigration overhaul. But the party's senators are still bruised from an
agonizing defeat on gun control this month. And few seem eager to
inject divisive issues that might sink their best prospects for a major
legislative victory this year and a potential keystone of President Barack
Obama's legacy."Any amendment which might sink the immigration bill, I would
worry about," Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said in a brief interview, adding
that he had yet to decide whether an amendment for gays and
lesbians would meet that yardstick.Support from both Hispanics and gays
was critical to Obama's re-election, and his overwhelming advantage among
Hispanics was a major factor prompting Republicans to warm to immigration
overhaul almost immediately after. But now, one community's gain on the
immigration front could be to the other's detriment."As you continue to
add other issues to the immigration discussion, it's going to make it
more challenging," said Sen. John Hoeven, a North Dakota Republican.Patrick
Leahy, D-Vt., who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has committed to
offering an amendment to the bill to allow gay citize
CARACAS, Venezuela Tensions are rising in Venezuela as opposition leader
Henrique Capriles pressures the National Electoral Council to announce by
day's end that it will permit a complete audit of the April
14 presidential election. The council said last week that it would allow
an audit of 46 percent of the vote not already audited. It
said it would announce this week when it would start comparing vote
tallies from each machine with the individual vote receipts from that machine.Capriles
is demanding the council announce Thursday that it will allow his team
to also examine registers containing voters' signatures and fingerprints.
State broadcasters interrupted his speech Wednesday night and the ruling
party is increasingly threatening to prosecute him over violence that erupted
after the vote, which the ruling party narrowly won.
