It's been more than a year since my last public announcement of these
packages. Parts of these packages are also part of the util-linux
distribution by Rick Faith. This software has been around since
about version 0.12 of Linux! but has been continually upgraded.
The PoeIGL package contains source for
simpleinit, agetty, login, hostname, mesg, write, who,
users, domainname, cage, hostid
Admutil contains
shutdown, reboot, halt, passwd, newgrp, last, ctrlaltdel,
chsh, su
I am making this public announcent because I just made some
extensions to login, so that it is now possible to restrict
login based on both tty line and remote hostname/IP address.
This feature might prove useful for people concerned with
security.
Be warned that there are other versions of some of these programs
around and that you may prefer them.
I have uploaded the two packages to nic.funet.fi and sunsite.unc.edu,
and the main ftp site for these packages is
ftp.daimi.aau.dk/pub/linux/poe/
Be careful with the installation of this software, it's easy to
screw up and lock yourself out. Unless you are a systems integrator
that makes Linux distributions, you probably need not bother.
