diving event in the FINA World Championships at the Piscina Municipal de
Montjuic in Barcelona on July 21, 2013.AFPBARCELONA (AFP) China's Olympic
champions Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan suffered a shock defeat in Sunday's
10m men's synchronised platform final at the world aquatic championships
as Germany claimed a historic gold. The German pair of Sascha Klein and
Patrick Hausding claimed the world title with 461.46 points from Russia's
Victor Minibaev and Artem Chesakov second on 445.96 while Cao and Zhang
settled for bronze on 445.56.This was Germany's first ever synchronised

a rare mistake saw the teenage pair drop to third.Having won the
women's 3m synchronised gold on Saturday's first day of competition at the
world championships, China had been looking to emulate their 2011 success
when their team swept all 10 diving gold medals.
HOT SPRINGS, Va. A squabble about scandals is consuming much of
the first debate between Virginia's gubernatorial candidates.Democrat Terry
McAuliffe confronted Republican Ken Cuccinelli about gifts he took from
Jonnie Williams and his troubled nutritional supplements firm, Star Scientific.
When the company sued Virginia over a $700,000 tax dispute, McAuliffe claimed,
Cuccinelli owned stock in the company and let the case languish.Lecturing
Cuccinelli about Williams, McAuliffe said, "Instead of taking him to court,
he took you to New York."McAuliffe wrongly claimed that a prosecutor's report
Thursday said Cuccinelli should be prosecuted for his role with Williams.
It made no such finding; it cleared Cuccinelli.Cuccinelli accused McAuliffe
of fabricating claims about his electric car company's employment figures
and a wood pellet company in Hampton Roads that has produced no
pellets.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">FILE: July 27, 2011 A section of vacant stores in Detroit.APThe bankruptcy
filing for Detroit marks a final step in the chrome-plated citys decades-long
decline which started with the countrys overall manufacturing slowdown
and continued with the departure of U.S. automakers and residents, leaving
behind a sprawling city trying to survive on dwindling coffers.Detroit was
in the 1950s a worldwide hub of auto manufacturing, making it the
fourth-largest U.S. city with one of the countrys highest per-capita incomes. However,
the so-called Motor Citys decline started soon after with residents -- following
their counterparts in other U.S. cities starting to move to the
suburbs and take with them businesses, jobs and tax dollars.Historians argue
the deadly 1967 riot in Detroit, one of the many so-called race
riots across the country in the 1960s, accelerated the trend. And as the
population dwindled from roughly 1.8 million to 700,000, city officials
struggled to keep up with municipal services in the 142-square-mile city,
with a tax base just half of what it was in the
1950s.Meanwhile, auto companies began opening plants in other cities as
Japan-made cars dominated the international market.By 2009, the U.S. auto

law enforcement and trash removal were further complicated by the costs
of paying uni

though Spitzer firmly denied a published report that the couple was separated."Regarding
Silda's dearth of appearances on the campaign, there has been a maelstrom
of media attention focused on Eliot's entry into the race," said Lisa
Linden, the campaign's spokeswoman. "He has no desire to bring his family
into the media frenzy at this time."Linden did not say when, or
if, the former New York first lady would campaign for her husband.
Spitzer has acknowledged the "hurt" he caused his wife but said she
would soon join him on the trail.Wall Spitzer didn't respond to a
request for comment."No one will forget that press conference; having her
get back out there is a lot to ask," said Christina Greer,
professor at Fordham University. "She could be saying, `I did it once.
I was raked over the coals, with people analyzing my scarf, my
jewelry, my tears. You want to get back out there? Fine, but
don't expect me to do it with you."'Spitzer's primary rival, Manhattan Borough
President Scott Stringer, campaigned with his wife the day after Spitzer
announced his bid.Experts differ as to how much Wall Spitzer's absence will
matter."Is it a sign she thinks he'll do it again?" Schiller asked.
"Has he really learned his lesson? It could signal to women that
she has doubts about his character."Political strategist Bill Cunningham,
a former adviser to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, said voters pick a candidate
based on the spouse and don't care if they a
