This is to announce the release of taper, version 4.0. Taper is a backup
program especially designed for tape drives. It includes an interactive
interface, similar to Norton Backup. Files can be appended to tapes and
a directory list of all files on a tape is maintained.

This is a major upgrade to old versions and has a new way of handling
the file directory. It was done to hopefully alleviate some of the problems
that SCSI users had (and some floppy tape drives), mainly with restoring
and appending to archives.

Once again, this is beta software and all comments, bug reports etc.. are
appreciated.

Taper is available as taper40.tar.gz at sunsite.unc.edu in
/pub/Linux/system/Backup and all mirrors. It may have not made it into
/pub/Linux/system/Backup so try /pub/Linux/Incoming as well.
