he National Air Traffic Controllers Association said.
"It is not a good thing for aviation to take away staffing
at any level."But air travelers may get a break on the ground.
A senior Transportation Security Administration official said Thursday he
doesn't expect furloughs for his agency, which staffs airport security across
the nation. And, he said, longer wait times at checkpoints have not
yet materialized as a result of so-called sequestration, as Homeland Security
Secretary Janet Napolitano warned last month.Congress included additional
money for security officers in a budget bill for the remainder of
the 2013 fiscal year, and long wait times have been averted for
now, TSA Deputy Administrator John Halinski told a congressional panel.
Obama signed the budget bill last month.Halinski cautioned that even with
the extra funding, travelers may see lines and wait times increase during
busy travel periods.
Reports that the suspects in the Boston bombing are believed to be
from the region near Chechnya may have caught some by surprise --
rebels in Chechnya are known for their violent and long-running campaign
to break away from Russia, but not for exporting terror to America. But
congressional researchers and foreign policy analysts have long tracked
a connection between the Chechnya region and Islamic extremists sympathizing
with Al Qaeda and the Taliban. If the suspects are indeed Chechen,
analysts told Fox News they may represent part of a jihadi network
which has made its way to American soil."The Chechen jihadi network is
very extensive," Middle East analyst Walid Phares said Friday. "They have
a huge network inside Russia and Chechnya."John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador
to the United Nations, said Chechen rebels are motivated by two things
-- a desire for independence from Russia and Islamic radicalism. He speculated
that, if the suspects are Chechen, they could be motivated more by
the latter. "They could well be supported by a significant international
network," he said. One suspect is dead and another is on the loose,
as federal and local law enforcement are engaged in what Massachusetts Gov.
Deval Patrick called a "massive manhunt." Many questions are still unanswered.Sources
said authorities are investigating whether Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of
Cambridge, Mass., and his brother may have had military training overseas.Reports

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">pitals in Texas. Two of the three patients at
Scott & White Hospital-Temple were in critical condition Thursday. One of
the two patients at McLane Children's Scott & White Hospital in Temple
was in critical.A spokesman at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco
told The Associated Press the facility received 98 patients, including the
five in intensive care. Another 30 have serious injuries, including orthopedic
and head trauma. Providence Health Center in Waco treated 65 patients from
the explosion, admitting 12. A spokeswoman says those patients had broken
bones, cuts, head injuries, minor burns and some breathing problems. Two
patients were also being treated at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.Roughly
133 patients, including some in wheelchairs, were evacuated from the West
Rest Haven Nursing Home, which was among the damaged buildings.Up to 75
homes were also damaged, as well as an apartment complex with about
50 units that was reduced to a "skeleton," Wilson said.Erick Perez, 21,
of West, was playing basketball at a nearby school when the fire
started. He and his friends thought nothing of it at first, but
about a half-hour later, the smoke changed color. The blast threw him,
his nephew and others to the ground and showered the area with
hot embers, shrapnel and debris."The explosion was like nothing I've ever
seen before," Perez said. "This town is hurt really bad."The explosion knocked
out power and could be heard and felt for miles
A leading Republican said Friday that the unfolding events in Boston underscore
the need to address "gaps and loopholes" in the nation's immigration system,
stressing that any new immigration bill should tighten screening to stop
those "who wish to do us harm."Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, addressed the
terror attack and ongoing manhunt at the start of a Capitol Hill
hearing on newly unveiled comprehensive immigration legislation. The Boston
crisis rapidly overshadowed the hearing, the first held for the major piece
of legislation. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had been scheduled
to testify but canceled as federal law enforcement agencies were pulled
into the crime scene. Grassley, though, suggested the attacks in Boston
could influence how the immigration bill is considered."It's important for
us to understand the gaps and loopholes in our immigration system. While
we don't yet know the immigration status of the people who have
terrorized the communities in Massachusetts, when we find out, it will help
shed light on the weaknesses of our system," said Grassley, the top
Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The two suspects have been
identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev,
26, who was killed early Friday morning. The two are believed to be
from the region near Chechnya. One source briefed on the matter said
they are thought to have arrived in the United States about a
decade ago. Po
