April 10, 2013: A rack of AR-15 rifles stand to be individually
packaged as workers move a pallet of rifles for shipment at the
Stag Arms company in New Britain, Conn.APNEW BRITAIN, Conn. A Connecticut
gun-maker announced on Wednesday it intends to leave the state, just six
days after passage of restrictive gun control legislation, while two other
manufacturers said they are considering relocation offers from other states.Manufacturers
also plan to lobby the state's congressional delegation next week "to make
sure they hear from our side," said Mark Malkowski, president of Stag
Arms in New Britain.Bristol-based PTR said in a statement posted on its
website that it has not decided where it will move, but has
commitments from most employees to relocate. The company makes military-style
rifles and employs more than 40 people. PTR Vice President John McNamara
said the company expects to make a more formal announcement about a
move within six weeks."Along with other companies in the trade, we were
deeply apprehensive at the hurried process to develop new gun laws and
fearful that it would generate unintended consequences for our industry,"
the company said. With the legislation signed into law by Gov. Dannel P.
Malloy on April 4, "our worst fears were confirmed," the company said.
"What emerged was a bill fraught with ambiguous definitions, insufficient
considerations for the trade, conflicting mandates and disastrous consequences
for the fu
attack on the foreigners. Last week, the city ordered van operators
to remove from their windows the dark tinting that made it nearly
impossible to see what was going on inside.Three men aged 20-22, as
well as a minor, have been detained in connection with the attack.Brazilian
media reports have said two other women, both Brazilians, have since come
forward to say they were also raped by the same gang. One
of the women is said to have reported the rape to a
police unit specializing in crimes against women well before the attack
on the foreigners, but officers took little action to investigate the matter. The
head of the unit as well as another officer have since been
fired. The attacks have been a blow to Rio's image as the city
gears up to host next year's soccer World Cup and the 2016
Olympic games.Officials here have won praise in recent years for bringing
down crime in this once notoriously violent city, and residents here had
been basking in the city's most positive image in decades.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> The White House says President Obama would veto a Republican bill that
would effectively shut down the National Labor Relations Board until certain
conditions are met.Republicans have claimed the board is illegitimate since
an appeals court panel ruled in January that Obama violated the Constitution
when he bypassed the Senate to fill vacancies on the board.House Republicans
are expected to vote this week to prevent the board from conducting
business until the Senate confirms new members constituting a quorum or
the Supreme Court decides the board has the authority to act. The
bill isn't expected to gain traction in the Senate. The White House says
that the bill would hurt the middle class and jeopardize workers' rights.
The administration argues Obama's appointments were constitutional and valid.
tigations into the bombings have never given a clear explanation of
who was behind the attacks.Following the uprising that forced longtime autocratic
leader Hosni Mubarak out of office in 2011, security in the area
deteriorated. Police have yet to fully re-assert themselves as armed groups
and weapons smugglers operate more freely than in the past.Egypt's new government
has struggled to impose order in the Sinai, whose northern region borders
Hamas-ruled Gaza. The peninsula's southern tip has traditionally been a
tourist destination known for golden beaches and top-notch diving spots.
