Attached is except from README for UnReal Audio
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

UnReal Audio stands for Unix Real(time) Audio. It was implemented just to
learn a bit about GSM compression library, (available on the Internet,
copirighted as PD Software by Jutta Degener and Carsten Bormann,
Technische Universitaet Berlin). The GSM compression software is available
since 1992(!!!), and I think I've found very interesting use for it.

I was driven to implement this experimental client/server for audio on demand
playback via TCP/IP network after watching sofware like RealAudio(TM)
emerge. RealAudio(TM) is propietary. UnRealAudio is PD. RealAudio(TM) is
high quality software for end-users. UnRealAudio is not. Please understand it.

UnRealAudio is not capable of transferring real-time audio data if throughput
of communication channel is less then 1700 bytes per second. Otherwise
quality gets jumpy (it still can be used, though).

Well, after reading all this, I guess you would like to hear it.

You will need to compile 2 components of the UnReal Audio (URA):
URA Daemon (urad) and URA Player (xuraplay).

I wanted to do it as fast as I can. Results are obvious:

1) urad only works via inetd (no standalone mode)
2) xuraplay uses XForms library...
3) You will need to bring, compile and probably install gsm library.

 XForms are available via ftp:
	bloch.phys.uwm.edu:/pub/xforms/
for all major platforms, including ELF linuxes.

GSM Library can be found in many places, one of
 them is: ftp://ftp.switch.ch/mirror/ipmulti/nevot/gsm-1.0.4.tar.Z

-------- CUT ------ You will find the rest in the package ---------------

You can send comments, suggestion, bug reports to mitnits@shani.net
