How To Get Linux Internet Archives By Tomorrow

ANNOUNCEMENT Press Contact: David Fickes
13 July 1995 +1 408 261-3070

Yggdrasil Computing, Inc. (San Jose, CA) has shipped the
world's first 5 CDROM set for Linux: the July/August issue of Linux
Internet Archives. Although a substantial amount of free Linux
software is announced on the internet every week, much more software
has been quietly added to the major Linux FTP sites on the internet in
recent months. As a result, Linux Internet Archives is now five CD's.
However, the price is still just $19.95 for the complete five CD set.

This release is also the first Linux CDROM set that can be
used to install Linux on a DEC Alpha without any additional software,
because it includes a snapshot of DEC's new BLADE 0.1 Linux
distribution. BLADE 0.1 is very experimental and does not include
X-windows or networking, but it is an important first step in enabling
hackers to try Linux on the DEC Alpha AXPpci/33 platform, or to study
a working Linux port to a 64-bit architecture.

Linux Internet Archives is a multi-CD collection that contains
the most recent snapshots of free software from the major internet FTP
areas relating to Linux, GNU, and X-windows. Linux Internet Archives
is intended for people who are already familiar with Linux, and who
who want to have the most up-to-date accurate images of the Linux FTP
sites at their fingertips. Although it is possible to install from
the linux distributions included on Linux Internet Archives and to do
so substantially faster than downloading from the internet, Linux
Internet Archives is not designed as a "Plug and Play" system. For
example, it does not include a boot floppy, a live filesystem, or a
manual (although it does have an instruction sheet). Technical
support is sold separately. What Linux Internet Archives does try to
do is to include the most FTP areas, updated the most frequently, and
sold at the lowest price. Linux Internet Archives is intended to be
"no frills FTP snapshots" for the Linux community.

For more information, please call 1-800-261-6630 or
1-408-261-6630.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Linux Internet Archives has the following features not found
in any other Linux CDROM sets:

o NEW! BLADE 0.1 DEC Alpha Linux port. This port does not
include networking or X-windows, but it does install
by itself on a DEC Alpha AXPpci/33 motherboards. Many
thanks to Jim Paradis for testing our CD to make sure that
it did indeed install his distribution correctly.

o Complete internet RFC standards, often sold as a separate CD
	  by others.

o All of the free X11R6 software on ftp.x.org, including
the MIT X11R6 distribution, the "contrib" tapes,
and the newer contributed software not on contrib
tapes. This is also often sold as a separate CD by others.

DISC CONTENTS

For convenience, each disk is labeled with its major
components (for example, "sunsite, part 1", "tsx-11"). The five
CDROM's in the set consist of the following:

	Disc 1 Slackware 2.3* **, Debian .93

	Disc 2: part 1 of sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux*,
	        including JE Linux (Japanese Extensions)

	Disc 3: part 2 of sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux*,
including Jurix, Xdenu 2.0, mini-linux and MCC, 1.0+?

	Disc 4: tsx-11.mit.edu:/pub/linux*, including SLS.

	Disc 5: prep.ai.mit.edu:/pub/gnu, ftp.x.org:/X11R6*,
internet RFC standards, plus the Blade Linux
		distribution for DEC Alphas (NEW!).

         * Denotes sections from which proprietary software was found and
removed. This CDROM contains only the free portions of
           these packages.

** Slackware is a registered trademark of Patrick Volkerding.

SINGLE CD'S

If you don't want all five discs, we are happy to sell you
individual discs from the set for $6.95 each; however, in order to
comply with the GNU General Public License, we require that if you buy
any copies of disc 2, 3 or 4, you must buy at least one copy of disc 5
(for the GNU sources).

MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

All direct sales from Yggdrasil have an unconditional 30 day
money back guarantee, and we encourage our resellers to offer the same
policies (and we back this up with full purchase credit for any
returned copies).

TECHNICAL SUPPORT (SOLD SEPARATELY)

Yggdrasil will maintain an up to date errata list for Linux
Internet Archives on ftp.yggdrasil.com in
pub/products/linux-arc.July95/errata.txt. Linux Internet Archive
users interested in mutual support can get instructions on joining the
linux-arc-users@yggdrasil.com mailing list by sending mail to
listserv@yggdrasil.com with "help" in the first line on the body of
the message.

Beyond that, technical support for Linux Internet Archives is
sold separately. To bundle the substantial cost of a lower grade of
"free" support into our product prices would at best only duplicate a
level of service already available online and from user groups. At
Yggdrasil we go to great lengths to provide the world's best
commercial technical support so that your problems will actually be
solved when you call us, but to do so we must insist on always being
paid. For more information on our technical support services, please
send an empty email message to tech-support-info@yggdrasil.com. We
are ready to assist you.

RESELLERS WANTED

Linux Internet Archives makes an excellent "add on" purchase
for people buying Linux products and accessory people who are already
running Linux. Because it is updated frequently, selling Linux
Internet Archives encourages your customers to get in the habit of
dropping by your store or calling your order line every few months.
High volume resellers will be glad to know that the July/August issue
of Linux internet archives now has an ISBN barcode on it.

If you would like to resell Linux Internet Archives or any
other Yggdrasil product, please call David Fickes at (408) 261-6633.
Yggdrasil offers excellent reseller discounts.

FREE COPIES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

If you wrote something that is in Linux Internet Archives or on its
CD-ROM, you probably qualify for a free copy. Please see
ftp.yggdrasil.com:pub/for-contributors/free-copy-offer for details.

HOW TO GET LINUX INTERNET ARCHIVES BY TOMORROW

(Saturday delivery is another $5, please call for pricing for Sunday

Of course, the very fastest way to get Linux Internet Archives
is to drop by your local Yggdrasil reseller right now and pick one up.

not have a complete list of everyone who sells our products, but we
are happy to help you find one if you call us.
