of OpenGL released for the Linux OS and also
a look at Mesa - a free implementation of an OpenGL
like API.
For those of you who haven't heard of OpenGL:

and 3D graphics applications. The OpenGL application
programming interface (API) is a vendor neutral,
multiplatform industry standard."
