		   EMPRESS SOFTWARE PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT

		        PERSONAL EMPRESS FOR LINUX

Empress Software Inc. is offering a special release of its software
designed specifically for the Linux community. This product is called
'Personal Empress for Linux'.

Empress Software Inc. develops, markets and supports a line of sophisticated
data management software. Empress is one of the most flexible, powerful and
cost effective development tools available for scientific, engineering and
business organizations operating under the UNIX family of operating systems
(32-bit and 64-bit architectures) and MS Windows. With more than 20,000
licenses worldwide, 10,000 in the United States alone, Empress products have
proven themselves in the most demanding applications. Software developers
requiring power over complex information have relied on Empress as the
foundation for systems in such diverse fields as medical diagnostics, weather
forecasting, space exploration, flight simulation, and image and voice
management

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT:

'Personal Empress for Linux' is designed to be a standalone, single user
RDBMS development environment. The current release of this software is
based on our full function release of Empress Version 6.6 running on
Linux Version 1.1. This has been tailored for use as a single user system.
The following software is included:

o	Empress RDBMS including Embedded, Interactive and Dynamic SQL,
Host Language 'C' interfaces, Report Writer/Generator,
          Database Utilities
o	Empress 4GL with Application Generator
o	Empress GUI Builder for Motif
    o	Empress GUI 'C' API
    o	Empress Documentation

WHAT THE USER CAN DO WITH THE PRODUCT:

The Linux developer can use this product to prototype, develop and build
powerful and open multi-media oriented standalone applications based on
the Empress v6.6 database. The applications can be character-based or they
can utilize the power and flexibility of the mouse driven, graphical user
interface (GUI). Using the GUI Builder will open up the database user to
a broad range of available data sources. Once the applications are fully
prototyped and/or developed they can be transferred to the full function
Empress database. The Linux platform will allow for scalability and easy
migration of the applications developed into the production database
environment.

The Empress documentation that is provided with the distribution media
(CD-ROM) is in the PostScript format. The documentation can be viewed with
GhostScript (a PostScript Viewer that is readily available) or printed on
a PostScript printer. The documentation files have been compressed using
Gnu Zip and must be decompressed before viewing or printing. There are
instructions in the 'Personal Empress for Linux' Release Notes.

WHAT THE USER CAN NOT DO WITH THE PRODUCT:

The Linux developer will not be able to develop multi-client, server-based
applications from this software package. If this is the desired use of the
product or the final product is intended for resale, then the developer will
need to purchase the multi-user version of the product (which is simply the
standard version of Empress v6.6 running on Linux v1.1). The multi-user
version is available through normal Empress sales channels. The following
features are not included with the 'Personal Empress for Linux' package:

   o	Heterogeneous Database Server
   o	ODBC Interface
   o	Shared Libraries
   o	Shared Memory
   o	Math Functions
   o	On-Line Backup
   o	Warm Restart
   o	Fortran (F77) Interface
   o	IQ Report Writer Interface
   o	ESRI Arc/Info Interface
   o	Oracle Interface
