Approved: linux-announce@news.ornl.gov (Lars Wirzenius)

As promised, here are the additional details of the organization of a
Linux Users Group here in St. Louis.

Drum-roll please...

ST. LOUIS UNIX USERS GROUP (SLUUG)
==================================
The most significant development is that we have joined together with
the St. Louis Unix Users Group (http://michelob.wustl.edu). In light
of this association the `official' name of the users group will be:
St. Louis Unix Users Group-Linux SIG (SLUUGLS). Pronunciation is
subject to individual interpretation.

The incentives for becoming a SIG (Special Interest Group) of SLUUG
include: an existing administrative organization; Kansas City Unix
Users Group (KCUUG) has a Linux SIG and they exchange newsletters; an
existing monthly newsletter (available via email and/or snail mail);
an O'Reilly book representative and InfoMagic products; a dial-in
bulletin board service with Internet access; monthly meetings with UNIX
tutorials, call-for-helps and guest lecturers; etc. etc...

We are very happy to announce this association and feel that the Linux
Users Group and SLUUG will both benefit from a combined effort.

FIRST MEETING
=============
We have decided on when to have or first meeting, in spite of the fact
we don't have a location or time. The first meeting will be on the
20th of July. All subsequent meetings will be held on the third
Thursday of every month. So don't plan anything for July 20th and
we'll get the time and place to you as soon as possible.

A topic has not been decided upon so if you have a request now is the
time to make it.

DOOR PRIZE
==========
The kind and generous folks at SSC (publishers of the Linux Journal -
http://www.ssc.com/lj/index.html) donated 21 Copies of the July issue
of the Linux Journal to our users group. The first 21 people to
attend our meeting will be given a complimentary copy. Some of the
topics in the July issue are Configuring XFree86, Introduction to HTML
and the xfm File Manager. Now I know you'll keep the 20th of July free.

VOLUNTEERS
==========
I would also like to thank those who offered to help organize the
Linux Users Group. I am sorry I was unable to respond to each of
you, but I look forward to meeting you on the 20th and discussing ideas
you have and items you are interested in having the users group take
up. Linux was built around individual contributions and I hope this
Users Group will carry on that fine tradition.

I would especially like to acknowledge Kevin Ruland who has
contributed quite a few ideas and met SLUUG with me to discuss the
possibility of becoming a SIG. Thanks Kevin.

As always, any feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Mail me at
matthew@aryabhat.cs.usml.edu with any ideas or suggestions you might
have.

Thanks for your interest and support.
Matthew
