SISCAD-P is a new innovative 2D-CAD system that gives engineers a production
implementation of new design technologies - parametrics, variational geometry,
inference sketching, a fully customizable user interface, constraint-based
modeling and feature-based modeling.

SISCAD-P dramatically reduces the product design cycle times. Parametric
design captures design intent and allows you to build dimension-driven
geometry with geometric constraints such as tangency, parallelism and
colinearity.
Intelligent menus and processes enable you to perform operations with the
smallest possible number of "working" steps with little or even no keyboard
entries. Constraint-based modeling allows you to perform "what-if" analysis
to get the best design solutions.
Feature-based modeling allows you to include standard design elements in
your model and eliminates traditional, time-consuming modeling operations.
All these new techniques are the result of a relational, object-oriented
data structure as a basic concept of SISCAD--P.

                                                  Nuremberg, June 22 1995
Dear friends and fans of Linux and SISCAD-P,

It is more than half a year ago that we asked you to honestly answer
our questionnaire on SISCAD-P 1.3-3 / Linux; a shareware product of
STAEDTLER MARS GmbH & Co, one of the world's leading manufacturers of
writing and drawing instruments.

Since our top management was forced to discontinue the activities of
our division ,"Information Systems" for economic reasons, there has been
a lot of uncertainty about the future of SISCAD-P. There was the danger
that the expertise of many a programmer would vanish forever in a drawer
or the like.

The numerous answers and impulses that we have received in the meantime
however, are so encouraging that we have re-gathered our strength and
energy to be in a position to distribute SISCAD-P under LINUX in future.

We want to thank you all for answering our questionnaire and encouraging
us not to give up. It has been a long and difficult decision for us, but
now we are very proud of being able to release the SISCAD-P Version 2.0.0
on August 1, 1995.

We are of the opinion that it has been worth waiting for this release.

Apart from numerous functional extensions and error corrections we

*     created a ,"step-by-step" documentation for SISCAD-P
* revised and amended the context-related documentation
*     developed an interactive tutorial
*     prepared an English Version

Comprehensive documentatian will be available for HTML and PostScript
formats. With the..

.. considerably improved DXF interface,
.. an ASCll interface as well as
.. a C-programming interface,

we have tried to make the system as open as possible.

On the Internet SlSCAD-P/Linux will be available as a demo version. The only
difference between the demo version and the fully licensed version is that the
number of objects and parts, which can be created, is restricted. After
licensing, this restriction will be removed. The regulations for licensing
will be published together with the new release.

We are confident that our decision to continue with SISCAD-P for LlNUX will
have utility for many a "user" and that our company - STAEDTLER MARS GmbH & Co -
can contribute to the success of LlNUX, an outstanding operating system.

Your SISCAD-P team.
