HexEd V1.00 is available. See below for a short description.
Server: ftp.rus.uni-stuttgart.de
Directory: /pub/unix/systems/linux/local/util
File(s): hx100lin.zip (Linux binaries in a.out format)
hx100src.zip (Sources - unzip with -a switch!)
What it is
----------
HexEd is a binary editor. It features
* a user friendly, menu driven interface
* multiple windows (great for manually comparing binaries!)
* multiple operating system support (DOS, OS/2, Linux)
* national language support (currently english and german
are supported - more languages may be added without recompiling)
* freeware, even for commercial use
* full source code
HexEd has been developed using a portable C++ class library for
creating text mode applications that can be compiled for DOS, OS/2 &
Linux without even changing a single source line and without any
#define's in your application source.
HexEd is completely menu driven and has most things you expect from a
text mode DOS program even under Linux. It supports colors and the IBM
line drawing chars on the linux console.
New features in version 1.0
---------------------------
* Fixed some bugs
* New file selector
* SIG_WINCH handling, can be resized in an XTerm window
* Improved documentation, now includes a manual page for Linux
Thanks to all who contributed with suggestions and bug reports!
Some comments on the class library
----------------------------------
The source package of HexEd comes with a complete C++ class library
for developing multi-platform text mode applications. If you want to
create applications that are portable between the operating systems
mentioned above, you may want to have a look at HexEd.
Important
---------
Please remember that the sources are in DOS format. Use the -a switch
when unpacking under Linux!
