The description and function of the Silver Crystal as it relates to Sailor Moon has been portrayed inconsistently within different adaptations. The original anime describes the crystal as an heirloom passed down among members of the Moon Kingdom bloodline. Furthermore, the hunt for the Silver Crystal involves locating seven rainbow crystals that are shards of the original, split upon the crystal's use by Queen Serenity. All seven rainbow crystals later recombine to form the Silver Crystal once Usagi awakens as Princess Serenity.
