This is to annouce the start of the development of SMP Linux.
The initial target will be Pentium based systems meeting the Intel MP
specification. In theory 486 is not much harder requiring only different
boot code. The motherboard choice is not yet made partly as I wish to
collect feedback from other people with SMP machines, or who are going
to rush out and buy an SMP P90 box when they finish reading this.
An initial mailing list has been set up on www.linux.org.uk. Mail
linux-smp-request@www.linux.org.uk to join in.
Other programmers (especially those with previous SMP kernel hacking experience)
and testers with SMP pentium boxes will be most welcome, and if someone is
out there who wants to do a fun logo and web page images that will be rather
neat too 8).
