This is to announce version 0.9b of SLiRP (formerly known as SLuRP), a
free SLIP/CSLIP emulator.
I wouldn't normally announce small upgrades, but there have been too many
changes since the last version. Any future updats will simply be placed
onto blitzen.canberra.edu.au.
Firstly, the name has changed from SLuRP to SLiRP. I found out too late
that slurp is some NNTP thingie (thank you to *ALL* those people who
pointed it out to me. Much appreciated :)
Secondly, the ftp site and e-mail for support/patches/etc. has changed to
ftp://blitzen.canberra.edu.au/pub/slirp and danjo@blitzen.canberra.edu.au
respectively.
Thirdly, support for SunOS, AIX, and SCO is included. Boy, that's the
last time I write anything without SunOS support ;)
And finally, there's a new WWW page (under construction) for SLiRP at
http://blitzen.canberra.edu.au/~danjo.
Here are a few changes since 0.9a:
- The on-the-fly configuration has *completely* changed from the draconian
"address-encoding" to a more user-friendly "command-line". Just telnet
to 192.0.2.0 and enter commands as they would appear in the config file
(there are extra commands eg: for statistics, killing sessions etc.)
- Improvements to the packet queueing, so now no session can "hog" the
link, and the ammount of udp packets queued is limited (as opposed to
unlimited in 0.9a)
- Added the ability to execute arbitrary programs on connection to a
certain port (eg: telnet to 192.0.2.1 port 21 will give you a shell
instead of the login prompt)
- Added modified telnetd sources so that the above shell will work fully,
with all the telnet negotiation nicities.
- Too many other little improvements to list...
You can ftp SLiRP from ftp://blitzen.canberra.edu.au/pub/slirp.
