Mario Golf: Super Rush is the first console Mario Golf game since the GameC=

Speed Golf is the big new addition you?ve most likely seen in trailers. Thi=
s involves hitting a ball towards a flag, of course, but after each shot yo=
u take control of your character and run towards your ball at full speed wh=

es, or even use a Super Rush, which speeds you across the fairway, knocking=
away opponents and their balls. You have to carefully manage your stamina =
to race your pals to the flag, while also keeping in mind the weather condi=
tions and what club you're using. It's a fun spin on the traditional golf f=
ormula - but oh no, you can only play Speed Golf with two players maximum o=
n a single console. If you want the full-fat four player experience, you wi=
ll need additional consoles, not just extra controllers. You can play onlin=
e of course, if you?re looking to either punish online strangers, or spend =

Battle Golf is the same deal. It takes the mechanics of Speed Golf and plac=
es them in a battle arena. These arenas aren't natural golf courses with we=
ather and nature at your back. Instead, they're closer to Mario Kart's Wari=
o Stadium, with a crowd of roaring Toads cheering you on as you race to bec=
ome the first player to sink your ball into three holes. Each time you get =
a ball in (which is official golf terminology, by the way), you'll be teein=
g off from wherever you sunk it, blasting your balls around the arena until=

e online mode works well. I haven't had any issues finding a match, and per=

Adventure Mode has good ideas and makes great use of the game?s core concep=
ts. Traditional, Speed, and Battle Golf are both given a chance to shine an=
d are also properly introduced here ? and in some cases, new mechanics are =
layered on top. On a desert course, for instance, you have to manage your h=
ydration level ? which is basically a shortcut to adding another pressure w=
here you can run out of resources and fail if you don?t play carefully.</sp=

<p><span style=3D"color: #ffffff;">There?s plenty to like in Adventure Go=
lf. It works as a great tutorial, and it certainly gets there in terms of f=
un ? it just takes longer than I?d like. But whereas I thought I?d be comin=
g to this game for its story-driven adventure mode, it actually proved to j=
ust be a bit of casual fun ? and my real enjoyment has come out of the core=
Mario Golf with Mario characters ? and those brilliant modes. The modes ar=
e absolutely vital, too, since their dynamism helps to offset a low number =
of courses and the shortcomings of the adventure mode.</span></p>=20
<p><span style=3D"color: #ffffff;">Those core modes are something special=
, however. It?s the sort of arcadey sports experience that doesn?t really h=
appen any more. Most sports games now are simulations ? so I?m so glad to g=
et another game that carries the spirit of older, arcadey, more silly sport=
s games. The adventure mode?s shortcomings don?t dent that significantly en=
ough to stop me from recommending Mario Golf: Super Rush ? but just don?t g=
o in expecting an all-time-great sports story mode.</span></p>
