- SCILAB 2.1 -
A FREE CACSD PACKAGE FROM INRIA
-------------------------------
Scilab is a matrix-based scientific software package resembling
Matlab and Xmath. Scilab contains hundreds of built-in mathematical
functions, rich data structures (including polynomials, rationals,
linear systems, lists, etc...) and comes with a number of specific
toolboxes for control, signal processing, ...
Scilab 2.1 has now been released; it has some new features:
Sparse Matrices, Lmitool package, ..., and less bugs.
As usual, Scilab is distributed free, in source code format,
as well as in binary formats. Scilab can be obtained by anonymous
ftp from "ftp.inria.fr" (Internet #192.93.2.54), directory
"INRIA/Projects/Meta2/Scilab".
Scilab has been developped for Unix/Xwindow environment and is
available and tested on the following systems:
SUN Sparc (Solaris and SUN.OS)
DEC Alpha OSF
DEC Mips Ultrix
IBM RS6000 AIX
HP 9000 HPUX
SGI Mips IRIX
PC Linux
Scilab 2.0 has been a great success. We have received hundreds
of e-mails: requesting information, suggesting improvements,
pointing out bugs, etc... We like to thank all those who have been
helping us improve and develop Scilab.
To keep up with the latest developments in Scilab World, you can
become a member of SciClub. By sending an e-mail to:
scilab@inria.fr
with subject SciClub
and content Your Email Address
you become a member and receive latest news on Scilab (information
on patchs, toolboxes, versions, contributions ...).
If you have a contribution to Scilab which you like to share
with the Scilab community, you can send us a description and its
availability, we will put the information in a contrib file and
announce it in SciClub.
Dr. Scilab
PS. Even though, Scilab language is in large part Matlab compatible
(in particular for basic operations), Scilab is NOT a matlab clone.
Unlike some other free matlabe-like packages, our intention is not
to always seek matlab compatibility. Scilab has a rich data
structure (polynomials, rationals, lists,...) and translating a
matlab program into Scilab (which in most cases requires very
little effort) usually leads to a much shorter and simpler code.
