I have uploaded version 1.5 of my ZyXEL VOICE/DATA/FAX modem support
software to sunsite.unc.edu (pub/Linux/Incoming, will probably be moved
to pub/Linux/system/Serial), and ftp.win.tue.nl (upload).

Files are:

ZyXEL-1.5.tar.gz Binaries, documentation, example config files
ZyXEL-1.5-source.tar.gs Sourcefiles

When you get the sources, get the first file as well.

A control program for the ZyXEL U-1496 series MODEMs for use with the
Linux operating system (and other UNIX-like systems)

This program manages the use of the ZyXEL MODEM for:

    - dial-in, for use by "uucp" and other programs started from
      a login

    - dial-in security (checking username and password)

    - dial-back security

    - dial-out, e.g. using "cu", "uucp" or "seyon"

    - receiving FAXes

    - sending FAXes

    - polling for FAXes

    - handling incoming FAX polls

    - answering machine (voice mailbox)

This release has some major changes relative to 1.4

Most notably:

    - more versatile programming of the DTMF control, using script
      files for all key actions

    - inclusion of a text-to-speech synthesizer in the voice mailbox,
which allows for easy prompting using text strings instead of
      prerecorded messages

    - voice mailbox remote control can run programs, and send the output
of these programs via the speech synthesizer

    - support for new voice modes (ADPCM4, sync codes) in 6.13 firmware

    - CLASS 2 FAX is now included, as a replacement for the ZFAX support
that required use of the MSDOS ZFAX program to generate and display
      FAXes

    - support for FAX polling (both as client and server)

    - support for FAXBACK requests from the voice mailbox

    - can FAX various file styles:
	- G3 FAX
	- Digifax, single and multi-page
	- Postscript
	- gzip'ed Postscript
	- plain text
	- output of a shell script
these provide interesting possibilities with the FAX polling and
FAXBACK service (like generation of a FAX page at the time the
request is processed, dynamically filling it with information)

    - PAGER can be called on request from voice mailbox

    - experimental Tcl/TK user interface (contributed by Harm Arts)

It has been brought to my attention that the program does not quite run
on SVR4, despite the included makefile. I am awaiting patches for this
problem, to be included in a later version.

I am using ZyXEL 1.5 on a 486DX/33 system running Linux 1.1.88, with a
ZyXEL U-1496Eplus modem running firmware 6.13
Some features (like the speech synthesizer) require a 486DX or better
to be usable. Older firmware on the ZyXEL should be no problem, although
there may be some FAX features that do not work correctly.
