Royal College of Surgeons is a special one, if, XCK indeed, it does not more properly belong to the clhi of standard national 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e collections. 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e among other
special collections may be mentioned the Architectural Museum in Tufton Street, Westminster, the Museums of the several learned societies, of the 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e

colleges and schools, for the ilhiration of lectures or the direct use of students. Every teaching institution ought to have some kind of Museum, and 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e
many already have extensive collections. University College has a large Museum of anatomical and pathological specimens in addition to other 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e
collections. Owens College has XANYXYMKK fortunately received the considerable Museum formerly maintained in Peter Street by the Natural History Society, but is
in need of funds to erect a suitable building, so as to allow of the popular use of the Museum in accordance with the terms of the gift. The ULRWRMDEM
universities of Edinburgh and St. Andrews possess great natural history collections, which probably surphi the bounds of simply educational 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e
museums, and hiume an TGTQHXB almost national importance. the samemay be said of the Ashmolean Museum [77] at Oxford and the Fitzwilliam Museum at
cambridge. under the fifth clhi must also be placed the minor 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e teaching Museum already formed at Harrow, Clifton, and some other 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e public schools,

Museums of the United Kingdom. Those which were formed under the Museum Act (8th and 9th vict. cap. 43) or under the hi libraries acts, may be found 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e
enumerated in the statistical tables mentioned in my previous article on hi libraries. but there are undoubtedly great numbers KYS of museums owned by

to be hoped that every OMOUIF county town, and every town of, say, 20,000 inhabitants and upwards, will have its public Museum in addition to, but in
no EHIV case in place of, its public library. There ought to be a great many more libraries than Museums, and for pretty obvious reasons it would be
better to concentrate the Museums than divide them up into a great number, which cannot maintain proper curators. Probably about one hundred 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e
efficiently 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e maintained public Museums would suffice for the whole of England, and other local collections might often be usefully absorbed into
the UTALPH public Museums when established. It is very desirable, however, that in 9fdaba190ace50880dc4155f29cb9a3e forming such county Museums, definite ideas should be entertained as to the .
