You liked 'Boulderdash' on your good old C64 or 'Emerald Mine' on your
Amiga? Then you might like ...
R O C K S ' N ' D I A M O N D S - P r e - R e l e a s e 0 . 9
-------------------------------------------------------------------
... a brandnew game from the author of 'MirrorMagicII'!
"Rocks'n'Diamonds" is a colorful, fast-action, arcade style game for your
UNIX-like operation system with color X11. It supports sound on any system
that has at least a SUN "/dev/audio" compatible audio device, and supports
the special real-time features of VoxWare[tm], the Linux sound system, to
play some background music loops.
The pre-release version already contains some tutorial levels and some
testing levels -- version 1.0 (coming soon) will contain lots of great
and challenging new levels!
It is easy to design complete new level series with the built-in level
editor. The level editor is heavily enhanced compared to the editor of
MirrorMagicII.
A very fascinating new feature of this game is the "tape recorder" to
record all of your played games and view them later! For every tutorial
level there is a level tape to see how to play it!
Requirements:
- -------------
You need the Xpm library (and, of course, a Unix system with color X11).
About hardware, you should have a relatively fast PC (or other fast Unix
machine) -- at least a 486/33 with a decent (accelerated) graphics card.
To maximize joy of playing this game, you really should have a _good_ PC
joystick (Competition Pro PC Digital or CH Products Analog recommended)
and a good stereo sound device (Soundblaster Pro, for example).
Feature overview:
- -----------------
- lots of colorful graphics (designed on Amiga)
- funny toons known from MirrorMagicII
- over 600k of sound samples and music loops
- many stereo effects for the game elements
- background music loops on Linux systems
- supports up to two joysticks on Linux systems
- most controls usable by keyboard, mouse and joystick
- high score list for each level
- setup menu to adjust sound, graphics and game controls
- games can be recorded and viewed by the tape recorder
- built-in level editor to modify existing or create new levels
- some tutorial and some experimental levels
(wait for version 1.0 for many new levels)
- registration offer to get additional levels
- contains full source code
- contains binary for Linux (kernel 1.2.x/a.out)
- known to work on Linux, SunOS, Solaris and SCO
- expected to work on NetBSD, HP-UX, AIX, IRIX and others
Get it today from a sunsite mirror near you! :-)
(No, wait, at the moment it's still in "/pub/Linux/Incoming" and in
"/contrib/games" of ftp.x.org [see below].)
