The Chat Server is the only commercially available continuous stream,
real-time, multimedia-capable, web based communication server on the
planet. It is the perfect tool for quickly setting up virtual meetings
and discussions between people located throughout the world. It is
also an excellent way to attract 1000's of users from around the
world to your website.
The Chat Server was developed by Magma Communications Ltd. in a Linux
environment for Linux based machines. It works with practically all Web
browsers. To take advantage of the continuous-stream capabilities of the
Chat Server, the Netscape browser is required on the client end.
Some of the possible applications of the Chat Server include:
Hosting "chat rooms" on the Internet for entertainment purposes.
For an example, please visit our own L'Hotel Chat at the URL:
http://www.magmacom.com/~cbjustus/lhotel/hotel.html
If you're looking at increasing traffic to your site for marketing
purposes, running public chat areas with the Chat Server is certainly
the way to do it.
Hosting "chat rooms" on the Internet for more serious purposes. These
could include virtual seminars, meetings, or interviews.
Hosting virtual meetings within a corporate network. A company could
use the Chat Server to organize and run meetings for employees located in
geographically diverse areas. These meetings could be held over the
Internet or totally within the companies internal TCP/IP based network.
The Chat Server is not a cgi-script but is a specialized server designed
for a chatting environment.
Further information on the Chat Server including details about purchasing
can be found at our website at:
http://www.magmacom.com/chatserver/index.html
The Linux version of the Chat Server is available now. Ports to
BSDI, Sun, NT, and HP-UX are in the works.
