Linux at Open Systems World '95

Monday and Tuesday, November 13-14, Open Systems World/FedUNIX
in Washington, DC is hosting the Second Annual Linux
International Users & Developers Conference.

On Monday, there will be 7 Linux-related sessions.
On Tuesday, there will be a tutorial: Linux for the new user

The currently scheduled Monday sessions are:
 8:00 am: Introduction to Linux
 9:00 am: Linux and networks
10:30 am: Building a WWW site with Linux
 1:00 pm: Linux in a commercial setting
 2:00 pm: Introduction to Linux International
 3:15 pm: Porting to Linux/Developing on Linux
 4:30 pm: Panel discussion
 BOF session to follow, email osw95-bof@ssc.com if you
 wish to participate.

Tuesday's tutorial, from 9am to 5pm, will cover a wide range
of Linux topics for new users.  Some topics to be covered are:

 o Introduction to Linux documentation, free and commercial
 o Hardware requirements and recommendations
 o Choosing a Linux distribution
 o Installation basics
 o Networking
   - LAN
   - Internet
 o Installing and configuring the X Windowing System
   - How to install

   - How to configure the system
   - The desktop
   - Motif
 o Finding Linux applications
   - Native Linux applications
   - Using the DOS box
   - Running Unix applications
   - Running Windows applications
 o User groups and Linux International

Both days           $229            $249
Mon. only           $109            $129

Admission to the OSW exhibit floor, open Wednesday and Thursday
(November 15-16), is free.  Many Linux-related vendors,
including ACC Bookstore, Caldera, Digital Equipment
Corporation, Free Software Foundation, Linux Journal, PromoX,
Red Hat Software, X Inside, and Zebu Systems will be exhibiting
on the floor, and encourage you to stop by and chat.
