-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I have uploaded the 2.2 release for pppd to the incoming directory of
sunsite.unc.edu.

This version supports many new changes. Please read the two 'README'
files before you install the package.

README is the main source of information regarding the changes and
updates to the package from the earlier versions.

README.Linux has been changed to reflect the current code and what is needed
               for specific Linux support.

This package replaces the previous 2.1.2 versions. It works with the
1.2 and 1.3 series kernels. The installation script will make the
needed changes to the various files and it should be used rather than
the ad-hoc method of copying the files to the appropriate directories.

Problems should be directed to the locations which are indicated in
the README.Linux file.

This version of the package does not include those platforms which
rely upon the streams interface. They have been removed due to
licensing problems and may be obtained from other sources such as
dcssoft.anu.edu.au, merit.edu, and ftp.uu.net.

I will contribute the driver to the kernel distribution. The files may
be modified at that time. What this means is that you will still need
this version of the daemon to work with the ppp code in the kernel
when the ppp driver has been updated.

This version supports functions such as:

- - dynamic assignment of devices. The old logic for either four or sixteen
devices in the system generation will be removed.
- - BSD compression of the PPP frames. Predictor-1 is under development.
- - Improved module support
- - Official support for the 'idle-timeout' patch used on the 2.1.2 version.

There are many more changes. Please see the README files for a more
complete list.

The LSM entry is included below.

Title: ppp
Version: 2.2
Entered-date: 25SEP95
Description: Daemon for the PPP protocol for Linux. This includes
the chat utility program. This is version 2.2 of the
code and includes support for those platforms which
are not driven by streams since the streams module
has a restrictive non-commercial copyright. The BSD
compression is available as a loadable module.
