The rocat BBS System for Linux version 1.00 has been uploaded to
sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/Incoming. It should be moved to
/pub/Linux/system/BBS in the near future.
rocat is a fully featured BBS system for Linux. It includes the
following:
- uses the native Linux utilities when possible (news, mail, games, etc)
- Supports modems, telnet sessions, any sort of character based
interface.
- Full ANSI support.
- Full macro support within menus, making menu design much simpler.
- Full documentation that explains every step required to configure
a 'vanilla' Linux system to a fully working BBS system.
- Professionally written C++ code, fully commented.
- All of the code is covered by the GNU Public License (GPL) version 2
- All errors are logged.
- All communications use Internet sockets.
- Multiple machine BBS systems are fully supported.
- The BBS is optimized to require very few system resources,
resulting in a faster BBS on a slow machine.
- Fully multi-user (locking used on all file accesses)
- Multiple language support.
New to 1.00 are the following features: (and more)
- The card structure has been added to. In particular, you can now
control:
- How much download space an account may access.
- When the user may log on.
- How much time an account may have.
- How many months (or days) an account is valid.
- Automatic Account expiration
In addition, the program supports automatic validation.
- The chat system is now in color.
- Full support for the Shadow Password suite. Shadow passwords are
now mandatory.
- QWK support (via UQWK).
- 'door' functionality has been added.
- A game 'door' called BattleField. (originally written for
Macintosh/Second Sight) A very complex, yet fun, game.
- All previous bugs (found) were fixed.
- Many tweaks to improve the performance of the BBS.
Requirements:
Linux, Development environment and TCP/IP installed, modem.
Note: For chatting, a 486 or better is recommended.
