sicians to withhold it, especially when they know they'll just get it
elsewhere."Even psychiatrists can feel trapped by a system that pushes them
to opt for a quick fix rather than a long-term solution."Physicians have
less and less time to spend with patients or may see them
only occasionally, when their talk therapist sends them in for drugs," noted
Dr. Harold J. Bursztajn, a forensic psychiatrist and an associate clinical
professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School."Anxiety can almost always
be treated in other ways, but too many doctors are too rushed
to search for the root of a patient's problem when there's a
supposed solution that seems quick, easy and effective."Once a doctor prescribes
the drug, follow-up care may be lacking, as Kim in Pennsylvania discovered.
The energetic then-20-year-old college student started having frequent anxiety
attacks and visited a doctor, who had previously prescribed generic Xanax
for her to use as needed for occasional anxiety. This time, he
put her on it daily. The drug soothed her panic but made her
so drowsy that she began to oversleep and miss classes. Her GPA
dropped, and she took to avoiding her friends. After a month, the
anxiety returned in between doses."I was taking it religiously, but the
feelings were three times as strong," she said. The next semester, she took
a medical leave of absence from school and holed up in her
room at her parents' house.Kim discussed her situation with th
SALT LAKE CITY Parents say about 50 elementary students in Salt
Lake City had their school lunches thrown out because money was owed
on their food accounts. The lunches costing about $3 were taken from the
children on Tuesday as they arrived at a pay station after cafeteria
workers had given them the food.Parent Erica Lukes said the action was
humiliating and demoralizing for students. The Salt Lake City School District
said the move came after it realized a lot of students at
Uintah (Yoo-IN-tah) Elementary owed money for previous lunches.District
spokesman Jason Olsen said cafeteria servers were not able to see who
was in debt until lunches had already been given to students in
line.He said the lunches were thrown out because they couldn't be served
to another student. Students whose lunches were taken away were given fruit
and milk.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">MECHANICSBURG, Ohio An Ohio man's family is fulfilling his dying wish
-- to be buried astride his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle. But it hasn't
been easy. The project required an extra-large cemetery plot to accommodate
a Plexiglas casket for Billy Standley and his 1967 Electra Glide cruiser.
Embalmers prepared his body with a metal back brace and straps to
ensure he'll never lose his seat.Standley's family said he'd been planning
it for years. He said he didn't just want to ride off
to heaven, he wanted the world to see him do it in
see-through casket. His sons began fashioning it about five years ago.The
Dayton Daily News reports that Standley of Mechanicsburg, west of Columbus,
died of lung cancer Sunday at age 82. He was to be
buried Friday.

Zenko Hrynkiw was at Brookwood Medical Center Tuesday morning when he was
needed for emergency brain surgery miles away at Trinity Medical Center. The
problem was the sudden snowstorm had locked down traffic, and the neurosurgeon
didnt get farther than a few blocks by vehicle. The cell service was
bad so we were fading in and out, said Steve Davis, charge
nurse in the neuro intensive care unit at Trinity. At one point,
I heard him say, Im walking.Davis had alerted authorities, and they were
looking for him. There were supposed sightings, but no one could find
him.The police were looking for him, Davis said.Hours had gone by since
the initial contact in the morning. He finally called me and said, Wheres
the patient? Whats the status? Davis said. He spoke to the family
and went off to surgery. It was an emergency surgery for a traumatic
brain injury. Hrynkiw is Trinitys only brain surgeon, Davis said.Without
the surgery, the patient would have most likely died, Davis said. But
he is doing well.Davis said he and colleagues at Trinity were estimating
the hike to the Montclair Road hospital at about eight miles, although
Google Maps puts it at about six. The extreme weather Tuesday has
been blamed for five deaths statewide and it stranded untold thousands away
from their homes. This just speaks volumes to the dedic
