DELRAY BEACH, Fla. A 6-foot-3, 250-pound naked man died after being
shot by a Palm Beach County Sheriff's sergeant when he attacked a
former New York City police officer, chased a man and his young
son and bit a man on the face.Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at
a Tuesday night news conference that the man later died at a
hospital but it wasn't immediately clear whether he died from gunshot wounds
or from a medical condition.According to Bradshaw, the man was walking on
a street in Delray Beach when, for no apparent reason, he attacked
the 66-year-old retired officer. The man continued down the street, where
he chased a man and his 10-year-old son near the entrance to
a gated community.- Sheriff Ric BradshawBradshaw said the man then started
fighting with an 18-year-old man, who defended himself with a box cutter.
The man bit the 18-year-old on the face."The 18-year-old thought he was
trying to eat his face off," Bradshaw said. "The people that he
assaulted, starting with the retired NYPD guy, the people that he chased
and then the 18-year-old, said this guy had like super human strength,"
the sheriff said. "But he's a big guy to start with. He's
not fat, he looks like an NFL linebacker. And he basically was
terrorizing people all up and down this street."Deputies arrived and tried
to calm the man down. They used a stun gun, but the
man kept going."He takes a fighting stance. They're trying to get him
on the ground. He starts charging them
nce and challenged the museum's teachings on the age of
the earth and the Bible's flood story. Like most scientists, Nye believes
there is no credible evidence that the world is only 6,000 years
old."If we accept Mr. Ham's point of view ... that the Bible
serves as a science text and he and his followers will interpret
that for you, I want you to consider what that means," Nye
said. "It means that Mr. Ham's word is to be more respected
than what you can observe in nature, what you can find in
your backyard in Kentucky."The event drew dozens of national media outlets
and about 800 tickets sold out in minutes. Ham said ahead of
the debate that the Creation Museum was having a peak day on
its social media sites."I think it shows you that the majority of
people out there, they're interested in this topic, they want to know
about this, they don't want debate shut down," Ham said before the
debate. At times, the debate had the feel of a university lecture, with
slides and long-form presentations.Responding to an audience question about
where atoms and matter come from, Nye said scientists are continuing to
find out.Ham said he already knows the answer."Bill, I want to tell
you, there is a book that tells where atoms come from, and
its starts out, 'In the beginning ...,"' Ham said.Nye said there are
plenty of religious people around the world who don't question evolution
science."I just want to remind us all there are billions of people
in

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico Puerto Rico's governor says he is renegotiating
the payment of short-term debt and has ordered all government agencies to
reduce their current budgets by 2 percent after the island's credit rating
was downgraded to junk status.Alejandro Garcia Padilla made the announcement
Wednesday on radio station WKAQ.Spokeswoman Paola Figueroa tells The Associated
Press that the governor will make additional announcements later Wednesday
in response to the downgrade.Garcia said Tuesday that he also would be
submitting legislation to further reduce the deficit and would present a
deficit-free budget for the upcoming fiscal year.Puerto Rico is in its eighth
year of recession while struggling with $70 billion in public debt and
a 15.4 percent unemployment rate, higher than any U.S. state.
NEW YORK Four people are in custody on drug charges after
police executed search warrants at three apartments in New York City.Police
say undisclosed quantities of heroin and marijuana were found Tuesday night
in the apartments in a lower Manhattan building. They say three of
the people lived in the building. All four three men and
a woman face charges of criminal possession of a
controlled substance. Two of the suspects also face charges of criminal
use of drug paraphernalia.Police wouldn't say why they had search warrants
for the apartments. They say that "at this time," they aren't linking
the arrests to their investigation into the death of Oscar-winning actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman.Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his apartment with
a syringe in his arm.
