Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas suggested at a forum last month that
President Obama was helped in his historic 2008 bid by getting the
approval of the "elites and the media" for saying "the prescribed things."Thomas
made the comments during a CSPAN interview a month ago.Asked if he
thought he'd see a black president in his lifetime, Thomas -- who
is black, and a conservative -- said he did.But he said the
first black president would have to meet certain tests."The thing that I
always knew is that it would have to be a black president
who was approved by the elites and the media because anybody they
didn't agree with, they would take apart," he said. "And that will
happen with virtually -- you pick your person, any black person who
says something that is not the prescribed things that they expect from
a black person will be picked apart. ... So, I always assumed
it would be somebody the media had to agree with."Thomas also revealed
that he's never had an in-depth conversation with Obama, and has only
interacted with him "in passing."
In the height of the 2012 election cycle,
Islamist militants laid siege to and overran a U.S. diplomatic outpost in
Benghazi, Libya. This posed huge dangers to President Obama's re-election
effort.Obama's greatest political asset was his success in preventing a
large-scale attack on the U.S. by Islamists. Obama had authorized the raid
that killed 9/11 mastermind Usama bin Laden and shown a willingness to
kill other terrorists with the kind of enthusiasm not associated with a
man who campaigned in opposition to the Iraq war.If there were any
thought that Obama were not sound on national security, his re-election,
then looking likely, would be in big trouble. It was especially troublesome
that the attack occurred in a country that was the centerpiece of
Obama's Middle East policy, where he had helped depose a secular government
and install an Islamist one in its place.Republican candidate Mitt Romney
tried to jump on the topic and managed to be overeager and
equivocating all at once. Romney ended up discussing the contents of Twitter
messages surrounding the attack and defending himself against charges of
politicizing the deaths of Americans. While Democratic operatives had Team
Romney pinned down on his Tweet talk, Obama and his advisers formulated
a response. Power Play was in Chicago the day after the attack
for meetings with the Obama campaign, but word came mid-morning that no
visit would occur in light of the Benghazi raid. What resul

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">The Homeland Security Department ordered border agents "effective immediately"
to verify that every international student who arrives in the U.S. has
a valid student visa, according to an internal memorandum obtained Friday
by The Associated Press. The new procedure is the government's first security
change directly related to the Boston bombings. The order from a senior official
at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, David J. Murphy, was circulated Thursday
and came one day after the Obama administration acknowledged that a student
from Kazakhstan accused of hiding evidence for one of the Boston bombing
suspects was allowed to return to the U.S. in January without a
valid student visa. The student visa for Azamat Tazhayakov had been terminated
when he arrived in New York on Jan. 20. But the border
agent in the airport did not have access to the information in
the Homeland Security Department's Student and Exchange Visitor Information
System, called SEVIS.Tazhayakov was a friend and classmate of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's
at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Tazhayakov left the U.S. in
December and returned Jan. 20. But in early January, his student-visa status
was terminated because he was academically dismissed from the university.Tazhayakov
and a second Kazakh student were arrested this week on federal charges
of obstruction of justice. They were accused of helping to get rid
of a backpack containing fireworks linked to Tsarnaev. A thi
y, however, and body motions nicely controlled. Bright LED
light clusters filling the original sealed-beam openings should help clear
the road ahead. For truck lovers who think this all sounds like the
ridiculous folly of some crazy millionaire -- which to some extent it
certainly is -- you can rest assured the owner fully intends to
put it to work pulling horse trailers and riding fences. He tells
Ward that he hopes to keep it for a very long time,
unlike the less charming trucks of today that he rides hard and
throws away once their plastic bits start turning to pieces.Unlike his production
lines of reimagined Ford Broncos, Toyota FJs and Willys Jeeps, Ward planned
the Dodge to be a one-off project, but has had so much
interest in it that he thinks hell end up doing a couple
more.Just dont expect them to look exactly the same as this one.
When you pay this kind of money you dont want to see
your truck coming the other way, especially way out on the range. That
might be awkward. Even for a couple of cowpokes.
